First published in 1979, this book is the first sci-fi written by a black woman (what!? so cool!) and is a "combination of slave memoir, fantasy, and historical fiction."
I was pulled in immediately and read the whole book in one night. It's much more historical fiction than sci-fi, in my opinion. It's a fast read, with first-person narration and a fast-moving plot.
Here are some interesting reads I found that you might enjoy checking out:
The Joy (and fear) of Making Kindred into a Graphic Novel (thanks so much Laila for finding that it is also a graphic novel!)
"A Grim Fantasy" - an academic article about the book
Happy reading and see you next month!
